{"id":3313,"date":"2013-03-20T09:00:37","date_gmt":"2013-03-20T09:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/?p=3313"},"modified":"2013-03-20T13:11:27","modified_gmt":"2013-03-20T13:11:27","slug":"making-meals-memorable-take-me-out-to-the-ballgame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/?p=3313","title":{"rendered":"Making Meals Memorable: Take Me Out to the Ballgame!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Baseball is huge in my family.\u00a0 My husband was born and raised in Chicago and he bleeds Cubbie blue.\u00a0 He has passed this love on to our boys and they spend all winter waiting for Opening Day (March 31 this year) so they can start watching the games, listening to the games, discussing the games\u2026\u00a0 Next month, our middle son turns 5, and in keeping with the tradition his older brother started before him, he will get to go to his first Cubs game at Wrigley Field this summer.\u00a0 I decided to use the anticipation for opening day, as well as Jonah\u2019s first game, as the jumping off point for some fun baseball-themed meals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/2013\/03\/making-meals-memorable-take-me-out-to-the-ballgame\/baseball_01\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3317\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3317\" title=\"Baseball_01\" src=\"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Baseball_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To give Jonah an idea of some food he may enjoy at his game, the first meal is a collection of classic ballpark snacks.\u00a0 The top row is trail mix and chips and salsa.\u00a0 For the trail mix, I just threw in some M&amp;Ms, raisins and peanuts, but this could be tweaked to your kids\u2019 liking or made with whatever you have on hand at the time.\u00a0 To make the \u201cnachos\u201d even more authentic, you could add some cheese, but my kids wouldn\u2019t have eaten that, so I didn\u2019t bother with it.\u00a0 The bottom row has cotton candy, corn dog nuggets and popcorn.\u00a0 I happened to have cotton candy on hand because I ran across it on clearance.\u00a0 While not nutritious at all, it\u2019s fun to have available when you need to add a yummy cloud to a themed meal.\u00a0 The corn dog nuggets could be done as a regular corn dog or even a hot dog or bratwurst if your kids would prefer those.\u00a0 Any of those would still fit the theme.\u00a0 Other than the cotton candy, these are all foods that people are fairly likely to have at home (or certainly be able to obtain easily).\u00a0 If you didn\u2019t have cotton candy, you could serve ice cream, another popular stadium treat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/2013\/03\/making-meals-memorable-take-me-out-to-the-ballgame\/baseball_02\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3318\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3318\" title=\"Baseball_02\" src=\"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Baseball_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second meal we had represents more of the actual game itself.\u00a0 I served square wheat crackers to symbolize the bases, with tortilla chips that are shaped like the infield (salsa is alongside for dipping.)\u00a0 In the bottom row, my favorite addition was the mini powdered sugar donut \u201cbaseball.\u201d\u00a0 This is a rare treat in my house, because even though I love these donuts, they\u2019re way too messy with kids!\u00a0 The middle cup holds hot dogs &#8211;
