<\/a><\/p>\nDespicable Me 2 just opened in theaters, so of course we were planning to go.\u00a0 My husband got online to check out show times and we were surprised to find out that there was an advanced showing the night before the official release!\u00a0 Of course, we had to go!\u00a0 We didn\u2019t tell the kids where we were going, and they were so excited to find what the surprise was.\u00a0 Once we got to the movie theater, we pulled out Jonah\u2019s minion shirt and broke the news!\u00a0 After the cheering subsided, we got to watch the movie.\u00a0 We loved it!\u00a0 It really featured the minions, which is Jonah\u2019s favorite part.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve had the idea for making a muffin tin meal revolving around the movie for a while, but until seeing the movie, I hadn\u2019t really come up with a plan for all the components.\u00a0 After figuring out what I was going to do, I probably had all three meals together in about 20 minutes, so it didn\u2019t take as long as it might seem.\u00a0 Some of these things won\u2019t make sense until you\u2019ve seen the movie, but you\u2019ll get the gist!<\/p>\n
In the top row, we have chips and salsa to represent Eduardo\u2019s Secret Salsa and a cupcake from the bakery Gru works at in the mall.\u00a0 I had just bought salsa yesterday, so that worked out well!\u00a0 The \u201ccupcake\u201d was a last minute addition.\u00a0 I had been stuck trying to come up with something for the sixth spot.\u00a0 I had thought about a cupcake, but didn\u2019t have time (or the desire) to make cupcakes.\u00a0 Then I remembered my trusty freezer.\u00a0 Whenever I have bananas about to spoil, I make a batch of mini banana chocolate chip muffins and stick them in the freezer.\u00a0 They\u2019re perfect for quick breakfasts and last-minute additions to school lunches.\u00a0 Today, I just squirted a little frosting on top and voila \u2013 instant cupcake!<\/p>\n The first section in the bottom row is strawberry jello to represent Gru\u2019s jelly PX41 antidote.\u00a0 The middle section is my favorite, so I\u2019ll spend more time on it in a minute.\u00a0 The last section is a banana \u2013 a minion\u2019s favorite food.\u00a0 Now for the star \u2013 a Twinkie minion!\u00a0<\/p>\n I saw these on Facebook at least a year ago and I happened to have some Twinkies at the time, so I saved a few of them just for this purpose (especially after the Twinkie shortage!).\u00a0 When we saw the movie last night, I remembered about my plan and pulled out my stored Twinkies.\u00a0 To make the minions, I started by cutting a Twinkie in half.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have Twinkies, I think these could be made with corn dogs, Milano cookies, a piece of cake or even a banana.\u00a0 Using a little dot of icing, I glued on candy eyeballs.\u00a0 These could also be made with a Smartie topped with a dot of black icing.\u00a0 Using some more icing, I traced around the eyeballs to make the minion\u2019s glasses.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t have black icing, so I just used blue.\u00a0 For the hair and the mouth, I dumped some Halloween sprinkles into a bowl and picked out the black ones!\u00a0 I had been planning to use blue sprinkles until I remembered I had the orange and black ones available.\u00a0 I just poked the black sprinkles into the head for hair and \u201cglued\u201d one on with icing for a mouth.\u00a0<\/p>\n It was all actually pretty simple, because I always have things like icing and sprinkles on hand.\u00a0 I keep a package of \u201cwriting icing\u201d and a squeezable white icing in the cupboard just for things like this.<\/p>\n I absolutely loved the way the minions turned out and so did the kids!\u00a0 They were thrilled to get to talk about the movie again and to eat their favorite characters.\u00a0 I even made a meal for Lydia, and she loved getting to play with her food!\u00a0 In the future, I\u2019ll have more meals based on some of our favorite books and movies \u2013 anything can become a fun meal!\u00a0 Remember, it doesn\u2019t take much to make your meals memorable!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The minions are here!!\u00a0 My son Jonah LOVES the movie Despicable Me.\u00a0 He\u2019s probably seen it 50 times.\u00a0 I put it on my iPad and we\u2019ll often find that he\u2019s snuck the iPad off the counter and is hiding under Continue reading Making Meals Memorable: Despicable Me 2<\/span>![\"\"](\"http:\/\/foodietales.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Minion-meal.jpg\" "\\"Minion")
