Years ago when my parents moved from Hudson County in New Jersey to Ocean Grove in Monmouth County my heart sank.\u00a0 Ocean Grove had some strange rules back then!\u00a0 It had no \u201cnight\u201d life and few places to eat.\u00a0 To get pizza (a staple in New Jersey eating) you had to go to the next town over to a place called Vic\u2019s.\u00a0 Talk about a sinking heart!\u00a0 This was not pizza as I knew it; thin crusted pizza was not in. I mocked it and really didn\u2019t go back for years.\u00a0 Well, to quote the 2013 year old man, \u201cWe mock the things we are to be\u201d, I now love Ocean Grove and Vic\u2019s pizza!<\/p>\n

Vic\u2019s is 65 years old. This is not a fancy place, it\u2019s old but very clean and has a certain charm.\u00a0 There are 2 dining rooms with a bar in the back of the first. If the weather is nice you can eat outside.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a waiting area, which in the summer months is usually full.\u00a0 I don\u2019t go on weekends during the summer, because there is always a line.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The pizza is thin crusted and always cooked perfectly.\u00a0 For four people you would need 2 pies.\u00a0\u00a0 My favorite is eggplant with garlic; slightly well done (I\u2019m very particular about pizza).\u00a0 Sausage and peppers, mushroom and the meatball pies are all good too.\u00a0\u00a0 Typical order would be pizza and the chopped antipasto. (Oh, always start with a vodka martini for $7.50, great price for a marty in NJ).<\/p>\n

There are many other items on the menu, I\u2019ve tried the mussels and the mozzarella sticks.\u00a0 Both are fine, but unnecessary.\u00a0\u00a0 This is about pizza!\u00a0 I\u2019m always perplexed when I see people eating pasta and other dishes. Why?\u00a0 The chopped antipast is served in an over loaded salad bowl. It\u2019s made of lettuce, tomatoes, red pepper, tons of provolone, pepperoni, salami, olives, and Tucson peppers, everything chopped into tiny pieces, with an Italian dressing.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Feeds four easily. Dessert is out of the question.<\/p>\n

Average bill is $50 – $55.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had Pepe\u2019s in CT., Ray\u2019s and Totono\u2019s in NY all Zagart rated but good old fashioned Vic\u2019s is still my favorite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
